X-ray contrast media
Side-chain building block for non-ionic iodinated contrast agents including iohexol and related media.
3-Aminopropane-1,2-diol · 1-Aminoglycerol · 2,3-Dihydroxypropylamine · Isoserinol
Glycerol with one hydroxyl replaced by an amine — a highly viscous, water-soluble amino diol. Its best-known role is as the side-chain building block of non-ionic iodinated X-ray contrast media such as iohexol. Supplied in drums with COA and SDS.

Industrially it is made by reacting 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol with ammonia under alkaline conditions. The three polar groups give it high viscosity and strong water affinity, which is exactly what contrast-media chemistry needs: solubility and tolerability built into the side chain.
Because it absorbs moisture quickly, drums should be resealed immediately and water content checked before use in any reaction where stoichiometry or acylation yield matters.

Chiral glycerol derivative used across fine-chemical and API synthesis.
Starting material for functional polymers, resins and coating modifiers.
Hydrophilic amine head group for mild surfactants and chelating agents.

3-Amino-1,2-propanediol is registered under CAS number 616-30-8, EC number 210-475-8, with the molecular formula C3H9NO2 and a molecular weight of 91.11 g/mol.
Its main use is in the preparation of non-ionic X-ray contrast media such as iohexol. It is also used as a chiral glycerol derivative in pharmaceutical synthesis and as a starting material for specialty polymers, surfactants and chelating agents.
It is a clear, highly viscous liquid at room temperature with a density of about 1.175 g/mL, and it boils around 264 to 266 °C at 739 mmHg.
In tightly closed containers below 30 °C, protected from moisture. The material is strongly hygroscopic, so water pick-up is the main cause of off-spec assay.
Chelora Amines supplies 3-amino-1,2-propanediol in 225 kg HDPE drums, 25 kg jerricans and 1 kg laboratory packs, with a certificate of analysis and safety data sheet on every despatch.
