Monoethanolamine
MEA · Ethanolamine · CAS 141-43-5 C₂H₇NOThe smallest of the ethanolamines, carrying a strongly basic primary amine and an alcohol group on the same short chain. That dual character makes it both a reactive intermediate and a dependable alkalinity source, which is why cleaning lines, paper mills and fibre processors all keep it on hand. It has a distinct ammoniacal odour and yellows on long exposure to air.
