How we work

Five things that matter in a hill-state supply chain

Supplying into Himachal is not the same as supplying into a port city. Lead times run through mountain roads, winters close windows, and the plants at the other end are often working to specifications far tighter than general industry.

01

Purity called out, not assumed

In a formulation belt, "the same chemical" at two purities is effectively two different products. We quote against the specification you give us.

  • Commercial grade for bulk process and utility duty
  • LR grade for routine laboratory and pilot work
  • AR grade where analysis and validation demand it
  • Assay, appearance and moisture stated on the batch COA
02

Documentation ready for stores and QC

Formulation and intermediate plants have tighter incoming-material checks than most sectors. The paperwork travels with the drum.

  • Batch-wise COA tied to the lot number on the container
  • MSDS/SDS with every shipment, in advance on request
  • HSN code details for correct GST invoicing and input credit
  • Packing list and batch traceability for audit trails
03

Packing sized to the batch, not the truck

A 200-litre drum is wrong for a plant that consumes 15 litres a campaign. Pack size is part of the quote, not an afterthought.

  • 25 L HDPE drums for laboratory and small-batch use
  • 200 L drums for regular production consumption
  • 1000 L IBC totes where volumes justify bulk handling
  • Pressurised cylinders for gaseous amines
04

Cold-weather handling planned in advance

Several products in the range approach their freezing or solidification point during a Himachal winter. Better to plan for that than to discover it at unloading.

  • Advice on products that may solidify in low temperatures
  • Notes on safe, gentle warming before transfer
  • Low-boiling items flagged for cool, sealed, vented storage
  • Timing adjusted around snow-affected road windows
05

Repeat supply that stays consistent

Once a grade is validated into a process, changing it is expensive. Consistency across repeat orders is the point of the relationship.

  • Same grade and specification on every repeat dispatch
  • Standing schedules for continuous-consumption items
  • Road and rail movement via the Punjab and Haryana corridors
  • Advance notice where a specification change is unavoidable

Basicity across the range

The pKa of the conjugate acid is the single most useful number when choosing a base or acid scavenger. A higher value means a stronger base — better at mopping up acid, but also more aggressive towards sensitive substrates and more corrosive to handle. Approximate aqueous values at 25 °C.

Quick guide

Not sure which one your process wants?

Six situations that come up often enough to answer here. If yours is not covered, describe the step when you send the enquiry and we will work through it with you.

I need to mop up HCl released in a reaction

You want a strong, non-nucleophilic tertiary base that will not itself join the reaction.

→ Triethylamine

My acylation is slow and incomplete

A nucleophilic catalyst used at a few mole per cent can transform the rate without changing the route.

→ DMAP, with triethylamine as base

Nothing will dissolve my polymer

You need a polar aprotic solvent with a high boiling point and broad dissolving power.

→ Dimethylformamide

I want a base I can strip off easily afterwards

Choose a low-boiling amine so it comes off under mild vacuum rather than needing a wash step.

→ Isopropylamine

I need a two-nitrogen ring in the molecule

Symmetrical diamine rings are the most common way to build that fragment into a scaffold.

→ Piperazine

I need to protect a steam and condensate loop

A volatile neutralising amine travels with the steam and raises pH where the acid attack happens.

→ Cyclohexylamine, often with morpholine

Safe handling

Before the first consignment arrives

Several products in this range are low-flash flammables or corrosive liquids, and a Himachal winter adds its own complications. A short preparation round saves a great deal of trouble at the unloading bay.

Pre-delivery checklist

Worth running through with stores, QC and production together.

  • Confirm the exact chemical name and CAS, not just an abbreviation
  • Confirm the grade and any assay limit your process depends on
  • Check flameproof storage, earthing and bonding for flammable items
  • Keep the MSDS/SDS at the point of use, not only in the office file
  • Decide how amine-bearing effluent will be collected and treated
Storage through a hill winter
  • Cool, well-ventilated area away from heat and ignition sources
  • Low-boiling items such as isopropylamine and triethylamine need cool, sealed, vented storage
  • Diethanolamine solidifies near room temperature and will freeze solid in an unheated store
  • Keep hygroscopic solids such as piperazine and choline chloride tightly closed
  • Separate from oxidising agents, strong acids and halogens
Flammables and static control
  • Triethylamine and isopropylamine have flash points well below 0 °C
  • Earth and bond drums, pumps and receiving vessels before transfer
  • Use non-sparking tools and flameproof fittings in the transfer area
  • Amine vapour is often heavier than air — ventilate pits and low areas
  • No hot work anywhere near the storage or decanting point
Personal protective equipment
  • Chemical-resistant nitrile or neoprene gloves, changed regularly
  • Splash goggles, with a face shield added for bulk transfers
  • Half-face respirator with organic vapour cartridge for liquid amines
  • Self-contained breathing apparatus for concentrated gas handling
  • Extra care with skin-absorbing items such as DMF and DMAP
First aid
  • Skin: flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, removing contaminated clothing
  • Eyes: irrigate for 15–20 minutes and see an eye specialist
  • Inhalation: move to fresh air and give oxygen if breathing is laboured
  • Swallowed: rinse the mouth, do not induce vomiting, get emergency care
  • Keep an eyewash station and safety shower within reach of the handling area
Transport, packing and spills
  • Liquids in HDPE drums (25 L, 200 L) and IBC totes (1000 L)
  • Gaseous amines in pressurised steel cylinders, stored upright and secured
  • UN-specification containers with correct hazard labelling
  • Spill: absorb with sand or earth, collect in closed containers, never wash to drain
  • Fire: dry chemical, CO₂ or alcohol-resistant foam
Paperwork, effluent and regulations
  • Correct HSN codes on every invoice for GST and input credit
  • Some products need additional paperwork depending on end use — we flag this at quotation stage
  • Amine-bearing effluent must be treated before discharge
  • Solvent-recovery and disposal routes should be decided before the first batch
  • Batch records retained so traceability questions can be answered later
Plain terms

Enquiry vocabulary, in plain words

Most delays on a chemical enquiry come down to two sides meaning different things by the same word. These are the ones worth agreeing on first.

AssayThe measured strength of the active substance in the batch, usually as a percentage on the COA.
COACertificate of Analysis — the test results for the exact lot you received, not a generic product sheet.
MSDS / SDSSafety Data Sheet covering hazards, handling, storage, PPE, first aid and disposal.
HSN codeClassification code determining GST treatment on the invoice and supporting input credit claims.
Lot / batch numberThe identifier printed on the container that ties the material to its COA and traceability record.
Commercial gradeBulk process quality for utility, formulation and general manufacturing duty.
LR gradeLaboratory Reagent — cleaner than commercial, suited to routine lab and pilot work.
AR gradeAnalytical Reagent — the tightest specification, for analysis and sensitive synthesis.
Acid scavengerA base added to absorb acid released during a reaction, so the product is not degraded by it.
pKaA measure of basic strength — higher means a stronger base, and usually a more aggressive one.
Flash pointThe lowest temperature at which vapour forms an ignitable mixture; it drives your storage precautions.
MOQMinimum order quantity — varies by product, grade and pack size, and is confirmed with the quote.
FAQ

Questions Himachal buyers ask

Short, practical answers. If yours is not here, contact us and we will reply directly.

Which chemicals do you supply in Himachal Pradesh?
Our range runs to 30 products, including triethylamine, dimethylformamide, piperazine, DMAP, isopropylamine, methylamine, dimethylamine, trimethylamine, diethylamine, pyrrolidine, piperidine, morpholine, benzylamine, aniline, n-butylamine, allylamine, cyclohexylamine, the ethanolamines, ethylenediamine, hexamethylenediamine, DMAPA, choline chloride and several hydrochloride salts. The complete list is on our products page.
Do you supply the Baddi–Barotiwala–Nalagarh belt?
Yes — all three are priority locations. Baddi formulation plants typically order solvents, acid scavengers and catalysts; Barotiwala units order coating, ink and adhesive chemistry; Nalagarh leans towards alkylamines and intermediates for multi-step synthesis. Packing runs from 25 L drums up to IBC totes, with cylinders for gaseous amines.
Can you deliver to Paonta Sahib and Kala Amb?
Yes. Paonta Sahib's resin, paper, pharma and distillery units and the steel, textile and chemical units at Kala Amb are both regular destinations. Dispatch is routed through the Dehradun–Yamunanagar side rather than over the BBN road, which usually works out faster for that corner of Sirmaur.
Do you serve Solan town itself?
Yes. Solan's brewing and distillery operations, food processors, packaging units and institutional laboratories order from our range, often in AR grade and in smaller 25 L packs suited to laboratory and pilot-scale quantities.
Which other districts do you cover?
Beyond the priority towns we regularly supply Parwanoo, Una, Bilaspur, Mandi, Sundernagar, Shimla, Kangra, Hamirpur, Chamba and Kullu. Share your delivery address with the enquiry and the dispatch plan is confirmed alongside the quote.
What is the difference between TEA the base and TEA the alkanolamine?
This is the single most common mix-up we see. TEA can mean triethylamine (a volatile, flammable tertiary base used as an acid scavenger, boiling at 89 °C) or triethanolamine (a thick, non-flammable amino alcohol boiling at 335 °C). They are entirely different products with different prices and hazards. Always write the full name and the CAS number.
Which amine works best as an acid scavenger?
Triethylamine is the default choice in most synthesis work — strong enough to bind the acid, sterically hindered enough not to attack the substrate itself, and low-boiling enough to remove afterwards. Where a lower boiling point is wanted, isopropylamine is worth considering. The right pick depends on your substrate, so describe the step when you enquire.
Do you supply DMAP, and in what quantities?
Yes. DMAP is used catalytically at one to ten mole per cent, so orders are usually in small pack sizes rather than drums. Tell us the batch size and loading you work to and we will suggest a practical pack.
Do you supply gaseous amines such as methylamine?
Yes. Methylamine, dimethylamine and trimethylamine can be supplied in pressurised cylinders or as aqueous solutions. Specify on your enquiry whether you need the gas or a solution, and at what strength, since the handling arrangements differ considerably.
Which grades, packing and documents are available?
Most major products come in Commercial, LR and AR grades. Packing is in HDPE drums (25 L and 200 L) and IBC totes (1000 L), with cylinders for gaseous amines and bags or drums for solids such as piperazine and DMAP. Every dispatch carries a batch COA, MSDS/SDS, HSN code details and packing information.
How do Himachal winters affect delivery and storage?
Snow and ice can close or slow the higher hill routes, so we plan dispatch windows with that in mind — the BBN and Paonta Sahib belts sit low enough to stay accessible in most conditions. In storage, watch for products that solidify in the cold: diethanolamine freezes near room temperature, and several solids cake if moisture gets in. Gentle warming before transfer is usually all that is needed.
Can you match a specification our QC team has fixed?
Send the specification with the enquiry — assay limit, appearance, moisture, any other parameter you control against. We will tell you plainly whether the available grade meets it before anything is dispatched, rather than after.
Do you handle repeat and scheduled orders?
Yes, and for a validated process that is usually the right arrangement. Repeat orders follow the same grade, pack and route, so nothing shifts under your process. Tell us your consumption rate and we will suggest a schedule.
How do I request a quote, and what is the minimum order?
Open the contact us page and share the chemical's full name and CAS, grade, quantity, packing and delivery location. Minimum quantities depend on the product, grade and pack size. A complete enquiry usually gets a response within 24 hours. You can also read about us to know more about Chelora Amines.
