Chemical indenting agent in India

Connecting chemical manufacturers with industrial buyers · domestic, import and export

Chelora Amines works as an indenting agent between chemical manufacturers and the companies that buy from them. We find the right source, negotiate the terms, place the indent and follow the order through to delivery — while the manufacturer invoices and ships to the buyer directly. Buyers get the manufacturer's own price and paperwork; manufacturers get qualified industrial customers without opening a sales office.

Chelora Amines brings them together, places the indent, keeps the order moving and is paid a commission by the principal — so the buyer pays the manufacturer's price, not a stockist's.

What an indenting agent does

The middle link in a chemical sale

An indent is simply an order placed with a manufacturer on behalf of a buyer. An indenting agent is the party that arranges it: finding a manufacturer that makes the right grade, agreeing price and terms, placing the order, and seeing it through to delivery and payment. The agent never buys the material and never resells it — the contract of sale is between the manufacturer and the buyer.

That is the difference that matters. When you buy from a trader you buy the trader's stock at the trader's price. When you buy on indent you buy from the plant that made it, on the plant's own invoice, Certificate of Analysis and shipping documents, with an agent beside you who knows both sides and has a reason to make the deal work for both.

Chelora Amines started as an amine supplier and still is one. Indenting grew out of the same relationships: manufacturers in India and overseas asking us to find buyers, and buyers asking us to find sources we did not stock ourselves. Today we do both, and we tell you at the outset which route a product will take.

Why companies use an indenting agent

  • Access to the source. Many manufacturers will not quote a new or mid-size buyer directly. An agent with an existing relationship gets you to the plant.
  • The manufacturer's price. No stockist margin, no double handling, no extra freight leg through a warehouse.
  • Someone on the ground. Samples, specification checks, dispatch follow-up and claims handled by a person who speaks to both sides every day.
  • Lower risk for both parties. Each side deals with a counterparty the agent has already qualified, under written terms.

Two sides, one deal

What we do for manufacturers and for buyers

An indenting agent only earns when a sale closes and stays closed. That means the deal has to work for both companies — the one that makes the chemical and the one that uses it.

For manufacturers and principals

A sales arm without the sales office

We represent chemical manufacturers in India and overseas that want more industrial customers in specific markets, or a steady channel for capacity they are not yet selling.

  • Qualified buyers only. We check company credentials, end use and volume before introducing anyone.
  • Market feedback. Competing offers, price levels and specification demands, reported back honestly.
  • Order follow-through. Indents, proforma invoices, LC terms and dispatch dates chased on your behalf.
  • Payment follow-up. We stay with the buyer until your money is in.
  • Exclusive or non-exclusive. Representation set by product and territory in a written agreement.
  • You stay in control. You approve every buyer, every price and every contract.

The right source, at the source price

We help manufacturers, formulators and processors buy from the plant that makes the chemical, on that plant's own invoice and documents, with someone looking after the order for them.

  • Source selection. Manufacturers matched to your grade, impurity limits, packing and volume.
  • Comparable offers. Prices brought to the same basis — strength, Incoterm and pack — so you compare like with like.
  • Samples and qualification. Pre-order samples with COA and SDS from current production.
  • Specification in writing. Your limits agreed with the manufacturer before the indent is placed.
  • Shipment tracking. Dispatch dates, vessel bookings and documents followed to your gate.
  • Claims handled. If something is wrong on arrival, we take it up with the principal for you.

How an indent works

From first enquiry to plant gate

Every indent we handle follows the same five stages. The paperwork changes between a domestic order and an export or import, but the sequence — and who is responsible for what — does not.

Stage 1

Enquiry and brief

The buyer sends product, CAS number, grade, quantity, packing and destination. We confirm the specification and end use.

Stage 2

Sourcing and offer

We approach suitable manufacturers, compare offers on the same basis, and arrange samples where the buyer needs to qualify.

Stage 3

Indent placed

Price, specification, payment and delivery are agreed. The buyer's order is placed on the principal, which issues a proforma invoice or sales contract.

Stage 4

Payment and dispatch

The buyer pays the principal or opens a letter of credit. The principal tests, packs and ships, and we track the dispatch.

Stage 5

Delivery and close

Documents and goods reach the buyer. We confirm receipt and quality, handle any claim, and the principal settles our commission.

Before the indent is placed

Most problems in a chemical purchase start with something that was never written down: a strength that was assumed, an impurity limit nobody mentioned, a pack size that did not match the buyer's unloading equipment. Our job at this stage is to put every one of those on paper and get both sides to agree to them before money moves.

We bring offers onto the same basis — 100% active content, the same Incoterm, the same pack — so the buyer is comparing real prices, and we tell the manufacturer plainly where its offer sits against the market. Where the buyer needs to qualify a new source, samples from current production come first.

After the indent is placed

An indent is not finished when the order is signed. We chase the proforma invoice, check the letter of credit or remittance against it, confirm the dispatch date and follow the shipment. For exports and imports we check the shipping documents against the contract before they reach the bank or customs, because a mismatched document is the most common cause of a delayed release.

On arrival we confirm quantity and quality with the buyer. If anything is short, damaged or off-specification, we collect the evidence and take the claim to the principal until it is settled. That follow-through is a large part of what the commission pays for.

Know the difference

Indenting agent, trader, distributor or direct?

Four ways to buy the same chemical, and they suit different situations. The right one depends on your volume, how urgently you need it and how much of the import or purchase process you want to manage yourself.

We work both ways, and say which. Chelora Amines supplies a number of amines from its own invoice and arranges others on indent. When you enquire, we tell you which route the product will take, who will invoice you and whose documents you will receive — before you place an order, not after.

What the commission covers

The work behind every indent

Placing an order is a few minutes' work. Making sure the right material arrives, on time, with documents that clear and a price both sides are still happy with afterwards — that is what an indenting agent is for.

Source finding

Identifying manufacturers that actually make your grade, at your volume, with the packing and documentation your site needs.

Offer comparison

Offers converted to the same strength, Incoterm and pack basis, so a price on 40% solution is never compared with one on 100%.

Price and terms negotiation

Price, payment terms, delivery schedule and penalties agreed in writing — fair to both sides, so repeat business follows.

Samples and qualification

Pre-order samples from current production, with COA and SDS, so your QC and R&D teams approve the source before you commit.

Documentation checks

Proforma invoices, LCs, COAs, invoices and shipping papers checked against the agreed contract before they reach a bank or customs.

Dispatch and shipment tracking

Production dates, vessel bookings, transit and arrival followed and reported, so your planning team is never guessing.

Claims and disputes

Shortages, damage or off-spec material documented and presented to the principal, and followed through to replacement or credit.

Market intelligence

Price trends, capacity changes and supply disruptions in the products we handle, shared with buyers and principals alike.

Products on indent

What we source and represent

Our core is amines and their derivatives, where we know the chemistry, the grades and the manufacturers best. Beyond our own list we also indent solvents, intermediates and specialty chemicals from principals we work with. Open any product for its specification and grades, or see the full product range.

Looking for something not listed? Send the product name, CAS number and quantity. If it is within our principals' range we will quote it; if it is not, we will say so rather than broker it blind.

Industries

Who buys through us

Indent business suits plants that buy the same chemicals every month in drum, tote or container quantities. These are the sectors we work with most.

Pharmaceuticals and APIs

Amines, bases and intermediates for bulk drug synthesis, where source documentation and change control matter as much as price.

Agrochemicals

Raw materials for herbicide, insecticide and fungicide technical and formulation plants, bought in seasonal campaigns.

Animal feed and nutrition

Feedstocks for choline chloride and betaine plants that run continuously and cannot afford a supply gap.

Water treatment

Neutralising amines, polymer raw materials and resin chemicals for boiler, cooling-water and effluent treatment suppliers.

Rubber and polymers

Amines for accelerators, antioxidants, curing agents and polyurethane catalysts, often to tight impurity limits.

Personal and home care

Ethanolamines and quat raw materials for surfactant, detergent, shampoo and conditioner manufacturers.

Construction chemicals

Cement grinding aids, admixtures and coatings additives, bought in tote and tanker quantities by blending plants.

Gas treating, oilfield and textiles

Amines for gas sweetening, corrosion inhibitors and oilfield additives, and processing chemicals for textile and paper mills.

Commission and payment

How the money moves on an indent

The commercial structure is simple and should never be a surprise to anyone. The buyer pays the manufacturer; the manufacturer pays the agent. Here is how each part is set.

Commercial terms
Who pays the commissionNormally the principal (manufacturer), under a written agency agreement
How it is setA percentage of invoice value or a fixed amount per tonne, agreed per product
When it is dueAfter shipment or after the buyer's payment reaches the principal, as the agreement states
Effect on the buyerThe buyer pays the principal's quoted price; nothing is added on a separate Chelora invoice
Buyer-side sourcing feeOnly where a buyer asks us to source on its behalf for a fee, agreed in writing before work starts
How it is invoicedChelora Amines raises a commission invoice on the principal, with the tax treatment that applies
ExclusivityExclusive or non-exclusive, defined by product and territory in the agency agreement
ConfidentialityPrices, volumes and customer names covered by NDA on both sides

Advance payment

Bank transfer against the principal's proforma invoice, in full or as a part advance with the balance before dispatch. Common for first orders and smaller lots.

Letter of credit

An irrevocable LC at sight or on usance terms, opened by the buyer's bank in favour of the principal. The usual choice for first-time export and import business.

Documents against payment or credit

D/P collection through banks, or open credit terms once the principal and buyer have an established record. We help both sides move to better terms as trust builds.

Clear rules for both sides

An agent is only as good as the companies it introduces. We qualify both parties before any introduction, and we put our own commitments in writing too.

What we need from a buyer

  • Company registration and tax details — GST, VAT, EIN or the equivalent.
  • A signed end-use declaration for the products concerned.
  • Delivery-site details and a named technical or purchase contact.
  • Any import licence or permit your country requires.

What we need from a principal

  • Company and manufacturing credentials, with plant location.
  • Product specifications, typical COAs and current SDSs.
  • Capacity, packing options and lead times you can commit to.
  • Quality and regulatory certificates relevant to the products.

What we commit to

  • Disclose that we act as agent and who invoices the buyer.
  • Keep prices, volumes and customer details confidential.
  • Never add a hidden margin to a principal's quoted price.
  • Work business to business only — no sales to individuals.

Hazardous chemicals move under the manufacturer's dangerous goods packing, labelling and declarations, exactly as they would on a direct sale. Controlled or regulated products are handled only where both parties hold the licences the law requires, and we will decline an introduction where they do not.

Why work with us

An agent who knows the chemistry

Plenty of people can forward an enquiry. What makes an indenting agent worth its commission is product knowledge, honest dealing and staying with the order when something goes wrong.

We supply chemicals ourselves

As an amine supplier we know grades, impurity limits, packing and dangerous goods handling from the inside, not from a price list.

Specification first

We agree what is being bought before we talk about price, so the material that arrives is the material your plant needs.

Straight about the route

We tell you whether a product comes on indent or from our own invoice, who bills you and whose documents you get.

Fair to both sides

Our commission depends on repeat business, so we need the manufacturer and the buyer both satisfied with the deal.

Follow-through

Dispatch dates, documents, payment and claims are tracked to the end, not handed back to you once the order is signed.

Confidential by default

NDAs on request, and your prices, volumes and customer names stay between you and us.

Getting started

How to brief us so the first offer is a real one

Most delays in an indent come from a missing line in the first message. Send these details and we can go straight to the right manufacturer or the right buyers.

If you are buying

  • Product name and CAS number. Never just initials — TEA, DEA and TMA each mean more than one chemical.
  • Grade and specification. Assay, key impurity limits, and any test method you use.
  • Quantity and basis. Per order and per year, on solution weight or 100% basis.
  • Packing. Drum, IBC, flexi-tank, ISO tank or bulk, and what your site can unload.
  • Delivery. Site address for domestic, or port and Incoterm for imports.
  • Documents. Anything beyond COA and SDS that your QA or customs broker needs.
  • Payment preference. Advance, LC or credit, and any limits your finance team sets.
  • Current source, if any. It helps us find a genuine improvement rather than a sideways move.

If you are a manufacturer

  • Product list with CAS numbers. The grades you make and those you want to grow.
  • Specifications and typical COAs. What you can guarantee, batch after batch.
  • Available capacity. Monthly volumes you can commit to new customers.
  • Packing and loading. Pack types, container loads and your nearest port.
  • Target markets. Countries or Indian regions where you want buyers.
  • Price basis. Ex-works, FOB or delivered, and how often prices are revised.
  • Payment terms you accept. Advance, LC, D/P or credit, by market.
  • Certificates. ISO, REACH, GMP, Halal, Kosher or others relevant to your products.

Not sure of all of it yet? Send what you have. A product name, an approximate monthly volume and a delivery location are enough for us to tell you whether indent is the right route and what a realistic offer looks like.

Questions we are asked

Indenting agent FAQ

Short answers to what buyers and manufacturers ask us most about indent business. Anything else, ask us directly.

What is an indenting agent?
An indenting agent is a commission agent who brings a manufacturer and an industrial buyer together and places the buyer's order, called an indent, with the manufacturer. The manufacturer invoices and ships to the buyer directly, the buyer pays the manufacturer directly, and the agent is paid a commission for arranging and following through the sale. Chelora Amines works as an indenting agent for chemicals, alongside its own supply business.
How is an indenting agent different from a trader or distributor?
A trader or distributor buys the material, holds stock, invoices you from its own books and earns the difference between its buying and selling price. An indenting agent never takes ownership of the goods. The sale is made directly between the manufacturer and the buyer, and the agent earns a commission rather than a margin. Indenting suits regular volumes and container loads; buying from stock suits small, urgent or irregular needs.
Who pays the indenting agent's commission?
Normally the manufacturer, also called the principal, pays the commission under a written agency agreement. It is usually a percentage of the invoice value or a fixed amount per tonne, and becomes due after shipment or once the buyer's payment is received, as agreed. Where a buyer asks us to source on its behalf for a fee instead, that is agreed in writing before any work starts.
Does buying through an indenting agent cost more than buying direct?
Usually not. You are quoted the manufacturer's own price and pay the manufacturer directly, with no stockist margin and no extra handling in between. Many manufacturers would not quote a new or mid-size buyer directly at all, or would quote less competitively, so working through an agent who already has the relationship is often the way to reach the source in the first place.
Who invoices me, and who do I pay?
The manufacturer. On an indent the proforma invoice, commercial invoice, packing list and shipping documents are all issued by the manufacturer in your company's name, and payment goes from your bank to the manufacturer's bank by advance remittance, letter of credit or agreed credit terms. Chelora Amines does not collect your payment on indent business.
Who is responsible if the material does not meet specification?
The contract of sale is between the manufacturer and the buyer, so the manufacturer is responsible for the quality it certifies on the Certificate of Analysis. Our role is to agree the specification in writing before the order, check the pre-shipment COA against it and, if there is a problem on arrival, take up the claim with the principal on your behalf until it is settled.
Which chemicals do you handle on indent?
Mainly amines and their derivatives, such as methylamines, ethylamines, ethanolamines, morpholine and cyclohexylamine, plus solvents, intermediates and specialty chemicals from manufacturers we work with. Send the product name, CAS number and quantity, and we will tell you whether it is best supplied on indent or from our own invoice.
We are a chemical manufacturer. Can Chelora Amines represent us?
Yes. We represent manufacturers in India and overseas that want more industrial buyers in particular markets without building a sales office there. Send your product list, specifications, capacity, packing options and target markets, and we will come back with an honest view of where we can sell and on what basis, exclusive or non-exclusive, by product and territory.
Do you work on imports, exports and domestic business?
All three. We connect overseas manufacturers with buyers in India, Indian manufacturers with buyers abroad, and buyers and manufacturers within India. The direction changes the documents and the payment route, not the principle: the sale is always between the manufacturer and the buyer, with Chelora Amines arranging it and following it through.
What documents are involved in an indent transaction?
Typically the buyer's indent or purchase order, the manufacturer's proforma invoice or sales contract, the Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet, and the commercial invoice and packing list. Export and import orders also carry the bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin, insurance certificate for CIF shipments and a dangerous goods declaration where the product is hazardous. Our agency agreement is a separate document between Chelora Amines and the principal.
What payment terms are used on indent orders?
Payment terms are agreed between the manufacturer and the buyer. The usual options are advance payment by bank transfer, an irrevocable letter of credit at sight or on usance terms, documents against payment, or open credit once a relationship is established. We help both sides settle on terms that work for a first order and improve them as trust builds.
Is there a minimum order quantity on indent?
Indent business follows the manufacturer's minimum, which for most chemicals is a pallet or drum load for domestic orders and a full or part container for export. For smaller or one-off quantities, buying from our stock is usually quicker and simpler, and we will suggest whichever route fits.
How long does an indent order take?
It depends on whether the manufacturer ships from stock or produces against the order, and on the route. Domestic indents from stock can move within days of a confirmed order and payment, while export and import orders add production time, vessel booking and transit. The manufacturer's committed dispatch date is written on the proforma invoice, and we track it through to delivery.
Can I get samples before placing an indent?
Yes. For most products we can arrange a sample from the manufacturer's current production with its COA and SDS, so your QC and R&D teams can qualify the material before a commercial order. Send your application and the specification you test against with the request.
Will you tell me who the manufacturer is?
Yes, before you buy. On an indent you contract with the manufacturer directly, so its name appears on the proforma invoice and every shipping document. At the first enquiry stage we may share the specification and a typical COA first and disclose the name once both sides want to proceed, which protects the commercial information of the principal and the buyer.
Does buying on indent change my customs or tax paperwork?
No. You buy on the manufacturer's invoice exactly as you would if you bought direct. For imports you are the importer of record and clear the goods on that invoice; for domestic purchases the manufacturer charges GST on its invoice in the normal way. Our commission is a separate matter between Chelora Amines and the principal.
What happens if there is a delay or a dispute?
We stay in the middle until it is resolved. For delays we chase the manufacturer for a revised dispatch date and keep you informed. For quality, quantity or documentation problems we collect the evidence, present the claim to the principal and follow it through to a replacement, credit note or agreed settlement.
Do you sign confidentiality and agency agreements?
Yes. We sign non-disclosure agreements with buyers and manufacturers before specifications, prices or volumes are shared, and work with principals under a written agency agreement that sets out products, territory, exclusivity and commission. Your pricing and customer information is not shared with anyone else.
Who do you work with?
Manufacturers, formulators and processors buying for industrial use, chemical manufacturers looking for buyers, research institutions and registered distributors. All business is business to business. We do not supply individuals, and we ask new buyers for company registration details and an end-use declaration before the first order.
How do I start working with Chelora Amines as an indenting agent?
Buyers should send the product name, CAS number, grade, quantity, packing and delivery location. Manufacturers should send their product list, specifications and target markets. Use our contact page, email source@cheloraamines.com or call +91 98191 11179, and we usually reply within 24 hours.
